Violent deaths down but crime rate up

THE number of violent deaths in Malaga Province fell by almost a third (30 per cent) last year, new Interior Ministry figures show. The total number in 2010 was 16, compared to 23 in 2009. The overall crime rate in the province rose slightly year-on-year (+0.08 per cent).

Cases of child pornography fell by 57 per cent to just 20, and cases of corruption of minors fell by 9.1 per cent to 20.

 

Last year there were 35,126, burglaries (down 3.3 per cent), 18,397 robberies (down 4.3 per cent) and 2,799 aggravated robberies (down 3.2 per cent) last year.

While muggings rose slightly, shoplifting rose by 3.9 per cent.

Meanwhile, money laundering cases rose by 33.3 per cent, while car thefts fell by 18.1 per cent to (3,397) and road offences fell by 16 per cent to 2,067.

Almost half (44.4 per cent) of reported crimes were solved in Malaga Province, slightly better than the Andalucian and national averages which were 43.7 and 41 per cent respectively.

There are more 5,206 officers of National Police and Guardia Civil in Malaga, the most in its history.
