THE mobile phone mast in Benajarafe remains standing, despite an order issued in 2010 for it to be taken down. Since November 2009, Velez-Malaga Town Hall had been requesting that Vodafone remove the mast in an area known as Cortijada Los Perez, however, they obtained no answer.
Although they have a demolition order, the town hall needs a court order to enter the private property, which they have still not received.
Not only did the mast, installed 15 years ago, fail to obtain the necessary municipal license to be put up in a protected area, but residents have complained of rises cases of cancer caused by the radiation.
