PP accuses Junta of abandoning British residents

THE Partido Popular’s Carmen Crespo, accused the Junta de Andalucia of “abandoning” British residents affected by illegal housing in the Almanzora area “to their fate”. Crespo said that it was due to this “defenselessness” that the British residents had been forced to go straight the EU Petitions Committee, and said that the statements of the Provincial Delegate for Public Works and Housing, Jose Manuel Ortiz, who claimed he found this “surprising”, showed that he has “no knowledge” on the subject.

She requested that Ortiz “work in earnest to solve the problems suffered by residents in the province” because “these new residents have been suffering for years due to the lack of solutions to solve the problem of houses built disregarding the official plans, and who lack basic services such as lighting, water and sewage systems”.

Crespo also criticized the image that this is giving of Almeria abroad, at a time when what is most needed is people willing to invest in the province.

She said that the situation is “unsustainable”, claiming that the Junta is in a “state of absolute confusion in which no progress is made”. She also referred to the pending decree which was announced recently and which would allow town hall to legalize certain homes, saying that she suspected it was “an electoral ruse which will only create more uncertainty and confusion, when what is needed are urgent and efficient measures”.
