IT is expected that a total of 750 small and medium businesses will join this years ‘free parking’ scheme in Palma. Vouchers for 30 minutes of free parking at the underground Municipal car parks (SMAP) can be given by the businesses to customers who make purchases in their establishments.

It is possible for people to use multiple vouchers for up to two hours worth of free parking. The parking lots in the program include Parc de la Mar, Via Roma, Comte de Sallent, Santa Pagesa and Comte d’Empuries.

This project was originally launched in 2004 by Palma Town Hall, the Ministry of Commerce, the IBI-Commerce Foundation and Pimeco and Afedeco.

Last year 700 businesses in the town centre gave out a total of 120,000 vouches to their clients. A period of two months has been given for those wishing to participate to join the 2011 initiative.

The list of participating businesses can be seen on Palma Town Hall’s website.

Most of the businesses participating in this year’s campaign are located in streets 31 de Decembre, Ample de la Mercè, Argenteria, Aragón, Ausias March, avenida Alexandre Rosselló, Baron Santa Maria del Sepulcro and Blanquerna.

While other participants can be found in Andreu Feliu, Antonio Marques, Arabí, Balmes, Barón de Pinopar y Berenguer de Sant Joan, Bonaire and Born.
