Town Hall criticized over sex advert in food and drink guide

ORIHUELA Town Hall has dismissed accusations by the opposition as ‘political propaganda’ after it was discovered a council-sponsored food and drink guide includes an advert allegedly linked to prostitution. One of the adverts in the Guía Gastronómica 2010-2011 Comer y Beber en Orihuela is for a place thought to be a brothel whose website advertises ‘rooms for rent’ and reads ‘We are alone. Are you coming?’, according to a report in Spanish daily El Mundo.

“On page 36 a club is listed as one of the places where one can ‘eat and drink well in Orihuela. One of these establishments where women are prostituted is advertised from a restaurant guide sponsored by our City “, claimed Orihuela Town Hall Socialist spokesperson Ana Mas.

The guide is published by the Association of Hotel and Tourism Management in Vega Baja and sponsored by the Department of Commerce.

Ana Mas considered it “inconceivable” that municipal authorities are promoting an activity that “covers prostitution and ultimately human trafficking.”

A Town Hall spokesperson told EWN: “I am sure that this is one of those stupid mistakes that has inadvertently become a political propaganda tool for the PSOE party in the forthcoming elections.”

“The PP ruling Town Hall does not and never will promote an activity that covers prostitution and ultimately human trafficking.”
