Residents quiz candidates on local politics

English-speaking candidates from Alcaucin and Viñuela were quizzed by the members of the El Valle Association. Around 60 members of the association fired questions in a BBC Question Time style event at a panel of six candidates on subjects such as housing problems, budget deficits, social integration, tourism and care for the elderly.

The event was chaired the El Valle’s Peter Dibden and the panel consisted of representatives from the Partido Andalucista, Partido Popular, Los Verdes and PSOE.

However, the mayor of La Viñuela refused to attend as it was not held in his own village.

The Partido Andalucista candidate in La Viñuela and spokesman for Save Our Homes Axarquia, Gary Miles, said afterwards: “On a night that clashed with ‘El Clasico’ football match it was gratifying to see so many enthusiastic association members turn out. I would like to thanks all my fellow panellists for putting on such a thoughtful and mature display”.
