Calpe report reveals 900 ‘phantom’ fincas

THOUSANDS of  property owners in Calpe are not paying IBI or other taxes for their homes, a new report shows. A study carried out by EPPI SS Soluciones SL suggests there are 885 fincas (or plots of land) in the municipality which have been built on without this being recorded on the land registry and thus not beingtaxed IBI (land value tax).

These are shown on the land registry as vacant plots. Housing estates or groups of buildings on the same plot are considered fincas, so the number of actual ‘phantom’ properties in the town could be much higher.

Two photographs contained in the report are of the same plot of land. One taken of the current situation shows an urbanisation, the other is the same plot as recorded on the registry taken before any building took place.

Although the report commissioned by the town hall is dated July 2010,  it has not been made public until now.
