COSTA BLANCA hoteliers are optimistic that the upcoming summer season will be a good one. This hope comes following good Easter-break figures for the region, which boasted one of the highest in Spain, INE statistics revealed. In April, the Valencian Region had the fifth highest hotel occupancy rates with an average of 53.65 per cent with two million over-night stays and 640,163 visitors who stayed for an average of 3.23 nights.
The Canary and Balearic Islands led with 70.24 per cent and 65.85 per cent occupation respectively, followed by the Madrid Region with 58 per cent and Cataluña with 56 per cent.
Following the Valencian Region was the Basque Country with 49.6 per cent and Andalucia with 48.9 per cent.
In Spain there were a total of 22.6-million over-night hotel stays, representing a 11.9 per cent increase compared to the same period in 2010.
