WITHIN the space of 24 hours, two Irishmen lost their lives on beaches in the Alicante Province. The first was a 65-year old who drowned on La Marina beach in Elche. The second, a 36-year-old who was holidaying on the Costa Blanca with his wife, drowned on Babilonia beach (Gurdamar del Segura) due to the strong waves, according to emergency services.
Five other people also nearly drowned in La Zenia, Orihuela Costa, due to panic attacks and exhaustion respectively.
