THE Inaugural Tournament for the Golf Charity Shield is at Javea Golf Club on Wednesday (June 15). The aim is to raise money for the children’s charity EMAUS who help homeless, vulnerable and at risk children in the area. EMAUS look after children of all nationalities with children as young as one month old in its care
The children are housed across the Alicante area and are at the lowest level of the Spanish Social services. The children rely on EMAUS to provide even the most basic of needs and the charities resources are extremely stretched and they are hoping that this event will capture the hearts and minds of the community and bring much needed support to these disadvantaged children.
The Emaus Charity Shield is set to become an important date in the golfing calendar and this is your opportunity to be involved at the very beginning. We are looking for teams to compete in this prestigious event.
There will be 72 teams of two and the cost for entry is only €50 per person with 100 per cent of the money going directly to the children.
There will be a shotgun start commencing at 8.30am and 1.30pm.
There will be three categories of competition.
• Low handicap
• Medium handicap
• High handicap
First and second prize will be awarded to each category and the person with the overall highest score will be presented with the coveted Charity Shield.
There will be other competitions on the day including longest drive & nearest to the pin. In addition every player will be given a number on entry and a prize of €500, which has been put up by an anonymous donor, will be won by the player whose number is picked out of the hat.
Also on the day: Grand Summer Fete; 53 Stalls; raffle & tombola; Hog roast; Dancers; Live Musicians; Cooking Demonstrations; and BBQ.
In the evening: Live Music & Dancing; auction; buffet & Dance; presentations
The entire event has been organized by Tony Grande, someone who has worked for many years, raising money and bringing the needs of these homes to the public attention.
So please support this cause in any way you can, it is really going to be an amazing day!
