No! One of the original & authentic Mojacar Chiringuitos – MOJACAR’S Chiringuitos are unique gems on the Spanish Mediterranean coast. You won’t find beach bars which are so neatly adapted to the natural coast any where else. El Patio 2000 was first founded in 1968 and is now amongst the last few remaining original and authentic Chiringuitos, created to allow folks to relax and enjoy the spirit and happiness of the bamboo and palm tree beach bar oasis.
Canadian Tony Auth, who always returns back to Mojacar because of its historic charm says “Coming from North America you look for something traditional and typically Spanish. I have travelled many years along the Spanish coast and didn’t find any place this charming”
The traditional Chiringuitos seem to be in danger of losing the battle of old verses new. Laws for these bars from Mojacar need to be overhauled in order to protect them. “I think the beach is a public zone and needs to be protected for the future” says frequent visitor and Architect Fransico. V. from Madrid. The owners of the traditional Chiringuitos hope to find support in their quest so the bars can stay as they are and not made to become uniformed.
“We need to preserve and acknowledge the traditional Chiringuitos as a distinct culture that made Mojacar so attractive to tourists before it is too late and they are lost” says El Patio owner Beate Kuna.
People come back every year to enjoy the friendly welcome awaiting them at El Patio 2000. Families, friends and children are always assured a beautiful, exciting and relaxing atmosphere in which to enjoy the beach, seek some shade, or sample a fantastic meal or two.
El Patio prides itself on being one of the oldest and most established Chiringuitos on Mojacar Playa. A stranger is a friend we just haven’t met yet!
So for good food, beautiful views, hot beach, cool terrace and a great spirit, come along and join us at El Patio 2000 for an afternoon or evening. Or even better still, make a weekend of it and come and experience the free LIVE MUSIC weekends.
Hope to see you soon!
