THE highest international award for welfare and support has been made to the local Chairman of the Torre del Mar branch of the Royal British Legion. Mr Bill Radford received his award for outstanding work in providing excellent welfare and other first class support services to ex service and other expatriate members of the Torre del Mar branch.
The award, which came from Royal British Legion headquarters in London, was the only one made outside the United Kingdom and is the only one given world-wide. The award is personal to Bill who has had to deal with some very difficult and sometimes harrowing cases.
Bill said “this came as a great surprise. Although this is a personal award and I feel personally pleased, I must also point out that we have a first class team of welfare officers and we provide excellent welfare support in this growing and very successful branch”.
Torre del Mar Branch meets at La Vega restaurant on a Wednesday at 12 noon.
The branch organises a wide range of social events. New members, who do not have to be ex service, are very welcome.
