BUCKING the current political trend towards PP countrywide domination, Javea PSOE emerged as victors in the local elections leading winning six seats, against the PP with five. Since then, backroom battles have been pretty fierce with the PP trying to recruit other opposition party support to oust the socialists from their narrow margin perch.
Last Monday speculation was finally put to bed when PSOE leader and Mayor elect, Jose Chulvi, announced he had successfully negotiated a coalition government to lead Javea into the next four years.
The coalition will consist of PSOE (6 seats) XD (3 seats) CPJ (2 seats.) The surprise package to emerge from this local election was new party Xabia Democratica (XD) led by “dark horse” Oscar Anton, who won three seats straight from the starting blocks.
As a reward, Councillor Anton has been given the responsibility of managing Javea’s economy which considering he will be inheriting a town hall debt left by the previous BLOC government of some 41 million, will be a true test of his management ability.
