Murdered mum didn’t report domestic abuse

THE regional equality minister, Micaela Navarro, confirmed the woman found dead in Fines had not reported previous assaults by her ex-husband who confessed to murdering her. The 34-year-old ex-husband from Fines, Oscar, has been remanded to prison without bail for his alleged involvement in the death of his ex-wife, Rosa Galera, 28.

She was reported missing on May 30, and after a three-day search, her body was located half-buried in a dry riverbed in Tabernas, with obvious signs of violence.

Her ex-husband confessed to the crime after Guardia Civil found her car in El Puche district of Almeria city.

It apparently contained proof which connected him to the crime.

The couple had been divorced for two years and had a five-year-old daughter.

The suspect had been seen near the cookery class that Rosa had been attending.

More than 300 local residents took part in the search for Rosa, including the suspect, who showed obvious signs of nervousness.

He went to a health centre 55 kilometres away on the day of Rosa’s disappearance to be treated for wound to one of his hands.

Although Rosa had not reported her ex-husband for abuse, the relationship between them was said to be ‘difficult’, and her family had advised her to do so, although she reportedly refused, because she didn’t want to upset their daughter.

Another man, said to be an intimate friend of the victim’s ex-husband, was also taken into custody, as he was seen with him several times on the day of Rosa’s disappearance.

The free, 24-hour domestic violence helpline number is 016. Calls will not appear on phone bills.
