Velez-Malaga ‘loses’ €2m from state funds

VELEZ-MALAGA town hall has lost more than €2m from the State Fund for Local Employment and Sustainability for not carrying out works before the end of 2010. The town had received more than €7.8m from the fund, also known as Plan Zapatero, but failed to assign and execute some of the works for which it was destined.

Two of these projects are the ‘City of Music’ which was assigned in February this year to a union of two companies for €816,323, but will now be unable to use money from the fund, and the Torre del Mar multiple purpose building and theatre, with a budget of €1.2m, which was not even assigned.

In the case of the ‘City of Music’, the work has already started, and the town hall has announced that it plans to appeal the decision of the Ministry of Territorial Policies, although the work should have been completed by the end of 2010. Now, work has stopped completely, although it was due to finish in August, as the money may not be available for it to go ahead.
