Playa Flamenca turns pink for cancer charity

MARIA and her Pink Ladies certainly showed how it’s done on Sunday as nearly 500 people from all over the Orihuela Municipality and beyond turned up to take part in the AECC Charity Walk. The five kilometre walk, which started and finished at the promenade in Playa Flamenca, was organised by cancer sufferer, Maria Wilson and her team of Pink Ladies, in association with the Orihuela Costa Town Hall.

The promenade was turned into a sea of pink as the participants, the majority of whom were dressed in the vibrant colour, waited patiently to start the walk and with several market stalls, lots of live entertainment and children’s activities, there was something before and after the event for all the family to enjoy.

A number of local artists gave up their time for free to provide entertainment including the Ghost Academy of Performing Arts, which is based in Villamartin, Nick Gold, Tomas and Kara and the Costa Blanca´s next big thing, teenage band The Truth.

Current Mayor of Orihuela, Monica Lorente welcomed all the walkers back to the promenade after the walk and each of the participants received an AECC wrist band and a certificate of achievement.

Organiser, Maria Wilson said: “ I would personally like to thank all the walkers that took part. The Mayor of Orihuela, Mónica Lorente, was overwhelmed by the response to the walk and has promised us that next year she will give this fun day all the support she possibly can in order to make it an even bigger event..”

“We don’t know yet how much money was raised but we will let everybody know via the press and media,” she said.
