Big plans in Sierra Nevada for the summer season

THE Junta de Andalucia intends to promote tourism in Sierra Nevada this summer with a new programme of leisure, nature and sports activities. The Tourism, Commerce and Sport Department will launch the new programme, called ‘Sierra Nevada, the coolest thing in Andalucia’, from July 2 until the end of August.

Regional Tourism Minsiter, Luciano Alonso, said the programme would go ahead based on the positive response of last year, and will include skiing courses for young beginners, sports and language camps, concerts, excursions, recreational activities and sports events. Parking in the Plaza de Andalucia car park will be free during the summer, to make the stay more attractive, and there will be 16 hotels and 18 restaurants open in this area.

There will also be a music festival, with six concerts, and Sierra Nevada will maintain its ties with the city of Granada with combined visits to the Science Park or the Andalucian Memory Museum. Five top sports events will take place in Sierra Nevada, including the Sierra Nevada Limite Road cycling competition, the the Cycling Ascent to the Veleta, the Ironmad triathlon, the Ascent to the Veleta on Foot, and most importantly the Vuelta Ciclista a España in August.
