Man loses arm in fight in Puente de Vallecas (Madrid)

A 19-YEAR-OLD Dominican man lost his arm after an attack in the Puente de Vallecas district of Madrid.

He was allegedly attacked with a sword, sustaining cuts on the biceps and below the elbow of his left arm. National Police were the first on the scene, and applied a tourniquet to his arm to stop the bleeding, while obtaining a saucepan full of water and ice from a restaurant in which they placed the arm until paramedics arrived.

The paramedics had to amputate the left arm below the elbow before they took the victim to hospital where he was admitted in a serious condition. He was conscious the whole time although he lost a lot of blood.

A 29-year-old man was arrested shortly afterwards charged with perpetrating the attack which allegedly occurred after two groups of people were involved in a fight.
