THIS week, schoolchildren throughout Malaga start their summer holidays, and will return to school in September. School will start again for primary school children on September 12, and September 15 for secondary school. The school calendar has been approved by the Junta de Andalucia Education Delegation and includes 178 days of classes, to equal averages in the rest of Spain and Europe.
Therefore, there will be fewer days off than other years and towns which have local festivities during the school year will have to go without a holiday either on April 30 (Labour Day Holiday) or October 31 (All Saints’ Day Holiday). However, they will have a whole week off for Semana Blanca, from February 27 to March 5, coinciding with the Andalucian Regional Day on February 28.
The ‘Educational Community’ Day (formerly known as Teachers’ Day) will be on February 27, during the Semana Blanca holidays, so there will not be an extra day off. The Christmas Holidays will be from December 24 until January 9, and Easter from April 2 to 9.
There will be five National Holidays, on October 12, November 1, December 6, December 8 and May 1, and the end of term will be on June 22.
