BUSINESS owners on Paseo de la Libertad in Torrevieja are demanding a solution to the unfair competition of illegal street vendors, commonly known as ‘looky looky’ men.
Local Police Chief Javier Minguez Parodi has called for the “police force to be reinforced with 40 extra officers during the summer months.” Behind the immigrants selling these illegal items are “the organizations that make millions from bringing the pirated goods from overseas and then distributing them to the illegal vendors,” said Minguez.
Police are trying to tackle this problem through the Senegalese association ‘Cheikh Ahmadou Bamba, who hold weekly meetings. They offer advice on how to “get away from the mafia networks”.
