The first of July every year is the first day of the Lionistic year, when new office bearers and post holders are elected and appointed. For the first time in its six year history the Torrevieja Costa Lion members have re-elected their outgoing President to serve for a second term.
Re-elected Lion President Iain Bennett addressed the Club and guests at the Presidents Night in Restaurante Lo Marabu on Friday night. He thanked all the Club members for their support and in particular the Club Directors for their contribution throughout the year. Iain presented a token of appreciation from the outgoing District Governor Esperanza Pelegrin Feliu, to Lion Treasurer Janette Bennett in recognition of her work throughout the year.
In a year where there has been a further downturn in the economy, the Lions have continued to thrive and become more involved in the local community with sponsorship from many local businesses and organisations.
Lions work is never ending and the Club are able to respond quickly and efficiently where and whenever need arises. The Torrevieja Costa Lions Club are among the elite Lions in Spain in terms of supporting those suffering from natural disasters and indeed have recently donated over 3,000.00 euros to the Lorca Earthquake Appeal with the promise of more to come.
It is with the generosity of the public throughout Torrevieja and surrounding towns and villages who regularly support Lions Activities, that the Lions are able to function so well and offer assistance at the point of delivery, both efficiently and effectively.
Anyone interested in finding out more about the Lions Club and their activities should in the first instance contact Iain on 966 731 495 or [email protected] , alternatively everyone is welcome to attend the monthly business meeting in Hotel Cabo Cervera, La Mata near Torrevieja at 1930 hrs on the second Thursday of every month, next meeting is Thursday 14th July.
The Lions have a full programme of events coming up this Summer, watch the press and radio/TV stations for more information
