A WOMAN has been sent to a psychiatric ward for three years for attacking the mayor of Totalan in August 2010.
She blamed the mayor, Miguel Angel Escaño, for having allowed Social Services to take her children away from her and attacked him when he was working as a nurse at the local health centre. She burst into the nursing department when he was with a patient screaming that he had “ruined her life” before grabbing him by the neck, although he was not injured.
Malaga Court has acquitted her of carrying out an attack and breaking the restraining order which was issued against her two months earlier and which banned her from communicating with the mayor or coming within 50 metres of the town hall.
The woman suffers from bipolar disorder with manic episodes and the court considers that at the time of the attack she had no control over her actions. She will receive treatment for three years.
