A YOUNG Brazilian couple was arrested in Inca for allegedly stealing €10,000 worth of jewellery from the home of an elderly man. The 22-year-old woman had been working for the victim and was the one who allegedly stole the jewellery.
She then apparently passed the loot onto her 23-year-old partner to sell to cash for gold and second hand shops. They are believed to have earned €2,500 from the sale of the items, despite the actual value being around four times more, investigators said. Both the detainee’s home and various shops in the town have been searched for the items and so far several gold bracelets that belonged to the wife of the victim were recovered.
Many of the items will probably not be recovered as they have likely already been melted down, Guardia Civil said.
