Mijas town hall plans to put a stop to illegal sales of food and drink on local beaches. Mayor Angel Nozal has instructed policemen to increase vigilance and prevent the sale of perishable goods on the beaches.
Although for many years it has been common to see people selling soft-drinks on the beach, now they have expanded to cakes, fruit and vegetables, rarely kept with sufficient hygiene measures. None of them have licenses for this activity, and it is doubtful that any have undertaken food handling courses, the town hall says.
Mobile food sales are only allowed at markets and fairs after obtaining the necessary license.
