VELEZ-MALAGA will have to return almost €1m to the Ministry of Industry, Tourism and Commerce for failing to carry out a project within the allotted time.
The €979,649 from the 2007 Fund for the Modernization of Tourist Infrastructures was supposed to be used to create a Visitors Centre and carry out improvements at the Playa Fenicia archaeological site.
According to the new mayor, Francisco Delgado, the period to carry out the work ended on May 18, which was when the former corporation requested an extension on the time for the work to be carried out, claiming that they had not gone ahead due to registration problems with the plot on which the work was due to be carried out.
