THE latest drown victim is a 23-year-old Chinese man. He was found floating in the private swimming pool of a villa in Valverde in Elche the morning after eating dinner with a group of friends.
The body showed no signs of violence and it is believed to have been an accident, unless the autopsy proves differently. So far this year 19 people have drowned on beaches and in pools in the Valencian Region.
This is three more than last year’s deaths and there are still two months of summer ahead. Of the four children who have drowned in swimming pools, three were young girls between the ages of two and 11 in pools in Xalo, Betera, and Vallbona.
Last month four died on beaches in Calpe, Elche, Guardamar del Segura and Cullera, three of them pensioners. Cullera has had four fatalities on its beaches, Guardamar del Segura three and Burriana two. The remaining fatalities were shared by beaches in Valencia, Elche, Torrevieja, Denia, Calpe, Javea and Pilar de la Horadada.
