Consell de Mallorca costs reduced despite salary rises

TWO Consell de Mallorca employees are performing the same job that nine employees carried out in the past legislature.

This means that despite their salaries being more, the overall savings are substantial. Town Planning Secretary, Catalina Terrassa takes home €7,210 more annually. In the past legislature four people took home more than €49,400 a year each.

Technical secretary of the vice-president of Culture and Heritage, Miquel Barcelo takes home €1,497 more each year. When comparing this to the five people who did his job in the past legislature, the savings are more than €197,100.

“It was not easy to find people with all the necessary skills on both the administrative and technical aspects of the job,” said Consell de Mallorca President Maria Salom. There has also been a 56 per cent reduction in the number of senior management, from 56 people during Francina Armengol’s time to 23 with Maria Salom.

This represents a €6.6million saving in top officials salaries. Political parties are set to have their budgets cut by 20 per cent and the salaries of temporary staff will be reduced by €400,000, it was approved at the recent plenary session.
