A TRAINEE National Police officer saved a man from drowning in the waters off La Higuera beach in Torrevieja.
He was enjoying his day off at the beach with friends when he noticed that about 50 meters from the shore a man was struggling to climb onto the rocks, then fall into the water and was swept away by the strong current.
The sea was so rough that nobody dared to try and save him, except for the trainee officer who managed to reach the man with difficulty. It is believed the swimmer had been drinking alcohol, which made the rescue even more difficult because at first he resisted the officer’s help.
Both the officer and rescued man had cuts and scrapes which were treated by emergency services personnel.
