A MIXED solution to replace the bicycle lanes on the Avenidas in Palma has been chosen by Mateo Isern’s governing team.
Thirty percent of the new route will run on the interior roads without a specific bicycle lane, but two-wheeled vehicles will be given preference and the maximum speed is 30km per hour. This will avoid a large number of parking areas from being lost; just 60 will be now removed compared to 300 if a specific bicycle lane were created.
Works are set to begin today (Thursday) and it is expected they will be ready in September in time for the start of the school year. The €196,000 cost of these works is just 55 per cent the cost of the previous plan, according to Mobility Councillor Gabriel Vallejo.
