THE Balearic Islands was the region with the highest level of hotel occupancy in June – 82 per cent – bbeating the Canary Islands’ 64.3 per cent and Catalonia’s 63 per cent.
Overnight stays of international tourists in the Balearic Islands increased by 19.1 per cent last month compared to June 2010. Mallorca had more than 6.2 million overnight stays in June while Spain as a whole had 30.6 million representing a 10.9 per cent month-on-month increase.
Travelers from German and the UK to Spain in June represented more than 10.9 million overnight stays, representing an 18.1 per cent increase compared to the month before.
The German market experienced an annual increase of 20 per cent of their overnight stays, while the British rose by 8.3 per cent. Overnight stays by travelers from France, Italy and Russia in June reported annual rates of 26.3 per cent, 24 per cent and 72.8 per cent respectively. Meanwhile the annual Hotel Price Index (IPH) for Spain fell by minus 0.1 per cent in June.
