Father reunited with son after 10 months

A FATHER and son have been reunited 10 months after the child’s mother allegedly kidnapped him and took him to the Dominican Republic, where she is from.

The father, a construction worker from Sort, Lleida, who is now unemployed, says this is “the end of a nightmare”.

A representative of the Spanish Consulate reported that the child, who was rescued by the Dominican police in Puerto Plata, in the North of the country, was living with pigs in a hut, and was not sent to school as well as being underfed and dirty. His mother took him to the Dominican Republic on holiday last September but never returned, eventually telling the father that she was keeping the child there unless he gave her around €50,000.

She allegedly forced the child to beg on the streets. The Spanish authorities have worked with the Dominican police to free the child. The father says he will bring charges against the child’s mother but doesn’t want any compensation, only his son.
