Julio Iglesias in Gandia ahead of his concert

GANDIA Mayor Arturo Torro welcomed Julio Iglesias to the city ahead of his concert this Sunday (August 14) at Plaza del Puerto. Gates open at 9pm and the concert starts at 11pm. This will be the first concert of his summer tour in Spain.

“I hope Gandia people are looking forward to the concert, as it will be a very special one for everyone, including myself,” said the Latin singer, who has sold more than 300 million records worldwide in 14 languages and released 77 albums.

In July 1968 he won the Benidorm International Song Festival with the song ‘La vida sigue igual’ (‘Life continues just the same’).

He is the only artist to have been awarded with the Diamond Album, granted by the Guinness Book of Records, as the singer who has sold more records in more languages in the world – (the event was held in 1983).

In 1984 he was honoured with a star on the ‘Walk of Fame’ in Hollywood.

Mayor Torro said: “I encourage all the people from Gandia and from all over Spain who wish to join as to come and enjoy this great show, so we can all feel the same emotions that I have personally had the good fortune of sharing with him tonight.”
