Palm tree snaps in half on busy road

A 12 METER high palm tree on El Postiguet beach area in Alicante snapped at a height of three metres.

The rest of the tree fell on a motorcycle and a moped and blocked the road, blocking traffic. Nobody was injured.

Despite strong winds blowing in the area, technicians believe it is likely the tree had dried up due to the high temperatures in recent days and died.

Technicians will be inspecting all palms in the area, which have not yet been trimmed of their leaves and dates. This delay has been caused by the red palm weevil treatment that was applied to more than 10,000 date palms in Alicante.
