MORE than half of companies in the Alicante Province do not have any employees, latest National Statistics Institute (INE) data shows.
Of the 131,564 businesses whose head office is in the Alicante Province, 72,759 do not employ anybody, with the owner being the only person working, the Central Business Directory (DIRCE) revealed.
In the Valencian Region, 188,883 out of 348,955 companies do not employ staff, representing a 2.63 per cent rise in the number of businesses with no employees. In Alicante the increase was 3.25 per cent.
The number of businesses that have disappeared in the past three years in the Alicante Province is 11,000, representing 7.54 per cent.
This rise in the number of businesses with no employees has been at the expense of those that previously had one or two staff members.
In 2011, there were 64,701 businesses with between three and 999 employees in the Valencian Region, 2,759 less than in 2010 when there were 67,460 businesses, thus representing 18.55 per cent of all businesses.
