Gang held for raid on Euro Weekly News Headquarters

A GANG believed responsible for raids on businesses and apartments, including a night-time robbery on the Euro Weekly News headquarters, has been arrested.

The raid on the EWN offices in Benalmadena last Thursday was only partly successful as the Spanish gang members fled after being disturbed by an office worker in the same block.

They escaped with two laptop computers, but without loading the office safe, which they had tried to open, into a getaway vehicle.

Plain clothed police rounded up the gang of six from Madrid, after an “intense and discreet” operation in the Torremolinos and Benalmadena area.

Police believe the gang members – aged 20 – 31 – raided properties in the area and possibly elsewhere following detailed daytime reconnaissance. While some members carried out the raids, others kept watch, keeping in touch by mobile phones.

Police arrested the six men in two groups in La Carihuela (Torremolinos) in possession of lock-breaking tools plus stolen goods including laptop computers, a GPS device, camera, mobile phones, cash and car keys.

Earlier two gang members fled when asked for IDs after tampering with restaurant shutters.
