ALMOST 80 per cent of the 200,000 unemployed people in the Alicante Province live in 20 of the 141 municipalities.
Elche, Alicante, Torrevieja, Elda and Orihuela are the places with the largest concentration of jobless, National Employment Institute (Inem) data shows.
Elche hosts 17 per cent of the total unemployment in the province with 34,489 people. Although Alicante City is not far behind with 34,286 unemployed people, this represents a greater increase of 5.5 per cent.
In the Alicante Province, 49.2 per cent of construction workers on the dole live in just six municipalities. Alicante, Elche, Torrevieja, Orihuela, San Vicente del Raspeig and Denia each have more than 1,000 unemployed people who used to work in the construction industry.
