THE court in Denia remanded five individuals to prison without bail last weekend, after they were caught smuggling 600 kilos of hashish in blocks hidden in the back of a camper van.
When stopped, the occupants of the van, who were a criminal gang from Seville, claimed they were on holiday looking for a campsite. The story collapsed when the 6oo kilos were discovered in the back of the van, hidden between clothes and mattresses.
The mini convoy of vehicles consisted of two other cars travelling ahead of the van to act as lookouts warning of police roadblocks and check points ahead. The tactic didn’t work and all five drug criminals are now in custody.
In June five people were arrested in Denia for their alleged involvement in a hashish haul of 600 kilos.
