Two officers die in separate accidents

TRAGEDY struck twice last week when two policemen were killed in traffic accidents in the line of duty.

In the first, a local police officer was killed when his motorbike was in collision with a car that veered into his lane just outside Denia. The officer was reportedly knocked from his bike and was taken to Denia hospital with multiple injuries.

Despite having his arm and leg amputated in an emergency operation, the medical team were unable to save his life.

The driver who is accused of causing the death was found to have been under the influence of alcohol at the scene, and at the time of writing is being detained in police custody.

Last Thursday a Guardia Civil Officer was killed when he had stopped to help a car that had suffered a mechanical failure on the A31 Madrid road. He was 42 and married with two children.  He was hit by a passing car and died immediately.
