More than 200 people had to be evacuated after a fire started in Mijas in the ‘Fuente de la Teja’ area.
The forest fire started at around 20:00 on Sunday night. The people which were affected by the fire were evacuated to the sports centre in Las Lagunas.
Teams of firefighters from Mijas, Fuengirola, Marbella, Benalmadena, Coin, Torremolinos, Velez-Malaga and Malaga City were involved in the effort to extinguish the fire which continues to burn. This morning fire planes and helicopters joined the firefighters in this effort.
The cause of the fire is not yet known.
