Torrevieja’s Alzheimer’s Awareness Day events

THIS Wednesday, (21st September) is Alzheimer’s Awareness Day. AFA Torrevieja has planned a number of activities to commemorate Awareness Day and encourages support from anyone who can help, not just those affected by Alzheimer’s disease.

AFA Torrevieja has enlisted the support of a number of volunteers to man an information desk in the main plaza in Torrevieja in front of the Town Hall on Monday 19th September and Tuesday 20th September.

The volunteers will be on hand to provide information about Alzheimer’s disease and how to navigate the process through diagnosis to treatment and care.

Information will be available about the day centre and the new project “Buy a Brick” which aims to raise as much money as possible to provide a much needed residential care home for sufferers of Alzheimer’s disease.

On Wednesday 21st September a tree planting ceremony will take place at 10am outside the Alzheimer’s day centre in Avenida de la Estacion, in Torrevieja.

Representatives from the company Johnson Controls will be providing support along with AFA committee members and family and friends of the Association. Anyone is welcome to come along and lend a hand at this event. Refreshments will be available afterwards at around 11am.

The day will continue with an exhibition from the new Gymnasium Fit4All and conclude with a special choir performance for the patients in the afternoon.

Matilde Sanchez, the newly appointed President of AFA Torrevieja, said “We encourage as many people as possible to come along and provide their support during our Alzheimer’s Awareness events.

We rely heavily on the generosity of local people to be able to continue our work and are very grateful for the ongoing support we get. Please help us if you can, we accept most items in our shop and our volunteers will have collecting tins around at all the events this week”

For further information you can contact Matilde Sanchez on 647 119 991 or Judy Ferris on 610 082 593, or call at the shop in Calle Maestro Francisco Valejos.
