NERJA Town Hall has alerted local residents of the existence of a fraudster who tricks elderly women by offering to repair their sewing machines.
The man, who people describe as well-dressed, has been visiting local homes offering women small gifts related to sewing, such as threads and material, according to the local councillor for Citizen Safety, Inocencia Quintero.
He then asks them if they have a sewing machine, and if they answer yes, he asks to see it and tells the owner that it needs to be repaired. He offers to do it for them for a certain amount of money.
The women believe he may have tampered with their sewing machines because they worked perfectly before his visit.
Elderly women in the town are advised not to let strangers into their homes.
