Spotlight on Club Taurino Mojacar

LOCAL bullfighting association, the Club Taurino Mojacar (CTM)  is much more than just a club for bullfighting aficionados.

It is a club for people who enjoy Spain’s people, food and culture, the latter which includes bullfighting.

CTM meets on Thursdays when they are not away on an adventure discovering another part of Spain or being tutored by some authority on some facet of the Spanish culture.

This remarkable circumstance was brought about by two tireless English that arrived with the new millennium. Audrey and Mike Hathaway are the driving force behind this exceptional group.

Founding member, Sarah Hogg, has done a terrific website (www.club-taurino-mojacar.com) filled full of wonderful photographs taken by her husband, Ken, documenting just a few of CTM’s many events and a complete list of coming attractions and things to do.

Boasting more than 400 friends, some of the regular meetings can get quite crowded as there is something always very different happening.  This week’s program featured soldiers from Spain’s famed Foreign Legion who are on an intensive training course in English.

They presented themselves to the more than 90 greeting members and spent the rest of the afternoon in the lovely beachfront cafe, Dolce Vita, recounting breathtaking stories of their exploits in Iraq, Bosnia and Afghanistan.

Much thanks is owed to British Legion activists Andy Mortimer and Wendy Gretton for their help in setting up this unusual event, typical of the many happenings that occur amongst CTM associates.

Sevillana dance classes begin in early October. A whirlwind of activity and fun. More than a few have mentioned to me that they would have returned to England had there not been a club like this to help them learn about Spain and share the fellowship.

Call Mike or Audrey on 950 475261 for more general information.
