GUARDIA CIVIL arrested three people in Torrox charged with attempted robbery after they were caught tampering with cash machines at local banks.
The detainees, aged between 36 and 57, were caught by the officers while carrying out ‘strange movements’ at a local bank, and attempted to flee when they found themselves surrounded.
They had fitted a metal plaque inside the slot where the money comes out, to which the money would stick if anyone withdrew cash from the machine. Clients normally believe the machine is faulty, but when they have left, the thieves take the money.
The Guardia Civil checked other cash machines in the town and found that one had traces of glue on it.
