Warehouse blaze causes road closures in Crevillente

SEVERAL streets in Crevillente were closed due to a fire at a large abandoned warehouse. The former carpet factory ‘Alfombras Imperial’ was ablaze and a heavy column of smoke and flames could be seen throughout the town.
Traffic was diverted via other routes. The blaze was reported at around 6.40pm, but by the time the fire brigade arrived the flames had spread quickly and engulfed the building, according to sources from the Fire-Fighters Department.
Due to the intensity of the flames and materials that had been abandoned, the third floor of the warehouse collapsed. It took 14 fire-fighters more than three hours to extinguish the blaze. The cause of the fire is not yet known.
Locals had reportedly denounced the building on numerous occasions.
