Almost 15% of the population in Calpe is British.
In a recent meeting, the mayor mentioned that he plans to meet every three months the British population living there and answer their concerns in an open session to be organised by a local English speaking association in Calpe.
British Consul Paul Rodwell said, “It is the town hall and the Spanish authorities that are responsible for their residents and for this reason it is important that there exists an open dialogue between town halls and their residents. It is excellent that the mayor is taking this initiative.”
Prior to meeting the mayor (pictured), Paul Rodwell spoke to over a hundred people from Calpe’s U3A and was pleased to see the high level of integration as almost all the audience were on the municipal register or padron and the vast majority had voted in last May’s municipal elections.
