HOTELS and large restaurants in the tourism destinations of the Axarquia want to promote the area as an ideal location for weddings to attract visitors out of season.
In the past years, more foreigners choose Spain to get married, and reservations in four-star, beachfront hotels in Nerja for this purpose have increased, especially as many will organize the wedding banquet in their gardens or almost on the beach and have prices ranging from €35 to €90.
Nerja has been benefitting from this trade for several years, but now Frigiliana, La Viñuela and other areas are also hoping to get a piece of the deal.
Frigiliana is offering the local Casa de la Cultura, in a 17th century house, as an ideal location for couples to get married, and is also promoting the town as a splendid setting for same-sex weddings, most recently at the Expogays trade fair held last weekend in Torremolinos.
Sources from the town hall say they want to attract all types of people to the town to get married and take advantage of everything the area has to offer.
