CALPE’S ex-mayor, Javier Morato, now an Alternativa Popular councillor, fiercely defended his legacy last week.
Rubbish collection contracts might be connected to the Brugal corruption case, but his record during 12 years as mayor was spotless, Morato insisted, and the recently closed local television channel had been entirely legal.
The Accounts Tribunal investigation into padded invoices and irregular council contracts was “a PSOE tantrum” maintained Morato in a reference to the local socialists.
