Councillor held for attack on youths over flag in Masquefa (Barcelona)

A COUNCILLOR in Masquefa, Barcelona, was arrested after he allegedly mowed down two youths with his van for removing a Spanish flag at the town hall.

The councillor, Juan Jose Garcia Mora, who is with the conservative Partido Popular, had placed the flag outside the town hall and when he saw the youths taking it down, he deliberately ran into them with his vehicle, although they were on the pavement, causing them considerable injuries.

He then got out of the van and grabbed the flag mast, allegedly intending to attack them, although this was prevented by the Local Police and witnesses.

One of the youths had to be admitted to hospital with several fractures to his leg, which the other was only scraped and bruised.

It was found that the councillor did not have permission to put up the flag.

He was released with charges of attempted manslaughter the following day and banned from coming near the victims. He will have to appear in court every five days and has had his passport confiscated.
