Calling all budding pop stars! Its time to put your skills to good use and prove that you have got the Fun Factor, in aid of the “Dávila Grewar Fund”!
Many readers will recall hearing about the “The Laura Appeal” which was established to support the plight of young Mum, Laura Grewar, who after months of treatment finally lost her fight against cancer in August 2010.
Laura left behind a Husband, Jose, and four children, Connor (12), Callum (10), Cailan (8) and Naomi (7), who now not only have to come to terms with their loss, but also face severe financial struggles.
Jose works as a long distance lorry driver, spending as many hours on the road as possible in order to make ends meet, but leaving him little time to spend with the children.
They are really too young to be left unattended and he cannot afford to pay for childcare, not to mention school uniforms and books; but with no support from the state, pensions or grants available to him he is in an impossible position.
Once again, the good souls on the Costas came forward with relentless support and a plethora of fundraising ideas to help Jose to offset some of these costs, christening the campaign the “Dávila Grewar Fund”.
It was officially founded on April 19 of this year, and comprises 5 committee members, whose efforts have already helped to fund a carer who is employed 7 days per week to supervise the children while Jose is working.
Naturally this is an on-going expense, with the carer receiving just €600 a month via fundraising events, which sadly only equates to 33 cents per hour as she is on duty 24 hours per day! The dream is to increase her wages, but this is impossible without YOUR help! The latest fundraising event, “The Fun Factor”, has been organized in conjunction with The Lounge Bar, in Aguas Nuevas, where organizers are asking Elvis impersonators, Divas and Crooners to do their thing for the charity. It does not matter how good, bad or excruciatingly painful your singing prowess maybe, as this is your chance to shine, by doing something great for a wonderful cause!
Trophies will be awarded to the best performer in each category, as well as an extra special trophy for the overall Fun Factor Winner. It is only €2 to enter, with all proceeds being donated to the cause, and competition dates are as follows:
Tuesday November 1 – Elvis enters the building
Wednesday November 9 – Divas take the spotlight
Tuesday November 15 – Calling all Crooners
With the Grand Final taking place on 23 November.
A raffle will also take place during each phase of the contest, for which all donations are gratefully received.
For further information, or if you have any ideas for your own fundraising event please contact Lyn Adams on 965 077 014/ 676 650 210, or join the appeal on Facebook at ‘Davila Grewar Family Fund.’
