Man charged with strangling his wheelchair-bound wife in Marbella

A MAN, 63, has been remanded to prison without bail charged with the death of his wife last month in Marbella.

The 53-year-old victim had a degenerative disease and required a wheelchair.

The couple had been together for 20 years and he took care of her, but in the past months, her condition had worsened and they were having financial difficulties.

Her body was found in their home on October 2 and an autopsy revealed that she had suspicious fractures in her throat, which suggested she may have been strangled, although further tests will be carried out to confirm this.

Her husband was taken to the National Police station for questioning and claimed that on September 30 he took some tablets and later saw that his wife had trouble breathing, but that when he went to perform mouth-to-mouth his arm accidentally pressed down on her neck and realized she was dead.

He did not call the emergency services, but says that instead he took the keys to his van and began to drive with the intention of killing himself.

He was involved in an accident with another vehicle that day and was taken to hospital.
